The Book of Jasher is referred to in the Old Testament, in Joshua and Second Samuel. The one lying in front of you is based on a version in Hebrew of 1625, which is still available in reprints. It was a painful transcript based on a very old Hebrew record. The work for printing the Hebrew version started in 1613 by order of the Great Consistory of Rabbins at Venice. Important is that it was undertaken with their consent and under their aegis, for they alone had the authority to publish such works from the Hebrew records as they deemed authentic. There are at least three books published in modern times which have been called Book of Jasher, which are entirely different books. As early as 1629 the Puritans demanded that it be removed from the King James version, and in 1827 Protestant Bible societies… The translation in English from 1840 was reformatted by Hubert Luns who put it in 2013 on the Internet Archive. As of this date (June 2023) it has been viewed 43,326 times of which a number of (free) downloads, which proves that it fills a need.
